The St Columban’s College archive continues to grow, occupying a space in the College Library. A large collection of historical newspaper clippings has been collated and preserved, dating back to 1928 when St Columban’s College opened at Albion, in Brisbane. Current news items relating to our talented sports, arts, music and academic students are regularly added to the file.
Historic College Annuals have been catalogued and play an important role in researching histories for enquiries by former students, despite gaps in the collection during the 1930s-1960s.
The process of sorting hundreds of photos continues. We have quite a large collection of unidentified photos, most of which have been sorted into years. We are hopeful of sourcing identification through the Old Boys network as reunions occur, and as enquiries for information by past students come to light.
Administration files inherited from Albion days have been identified and sorted into date order, commencing 1928. Most of the files are small and somewhat eclectic; however, they still reflect the life of the College in their content. Many contain programs and sports results, whilst others contain early accounts, land acquisitions, and general purchases.
As the history of St Columban’s College comes to life through the College Archive, we are constantly searching for memorabilia and anecdotes to expand the collection. To this end, we are always very pleased to meet or hear from past students, and to collect their stories.
